Hello, Today when I visited Oak Park Public Library I found a Wii game I wanted to borrow. I checked with a librarian and he found that you had the game, but it wasn't in the case and recommended I go to Circulation and ask them to look for it. When I did the person in circulation said he couldn't look for it because, "there are too many items back there." When I asked if I coudl put it on hold he said no only Oak Park residents could. I felt that him not even attempting to look for the game was very poor customer service. The game had been checked in for at least a few days and had been put on the shelf without the actual game disk inside.

Hi Tara, I'm sorry you were mistakenly sent down to the circulation desk.  I will send out a reminder to our librarians about how we handle materials with a sorting room status. The circulation assistants aren't supposed to leave their stations to look for items.  I realize this isn't ideal. We wish we could put our hands on the material for you, so you could have it right away.  Unfortunately, the volume of returns makes finding the item very unlikely, so we ask that our customers put items on hold.  When you login to SWAN, you can place our games on hold.  They will be available for pick-up at your home library.  --Lori Pulliam, Branch Services and Interim Circulation Manager

There are several things that could be going on. Call us at 708-383-8200 and we can investigate.

1) Item is on hold for someone else – return the item.

2) Item is already overdue – call 708-383-8200 for assistance.

3) Item has been renewed to the maximum allowed – return the item.

4) Your library card has expired – visit the Library with photo ID and proof of continued residence in Oak Park to renew your library card.

5) You owe $5 or more in fines – fines can be paid online when you login to your account.

6) Item is a type that cannot be renewed – return the item.

Each library in the SWAN consortium decides on the loan rules for their own items. While all items appear in the library catalog, some items cannot be placed on hold and some items like reference materials cannot be checked out.  We might be able to get you a copy through interlibrary loan. {link to form} or call 708-452-3440 for help.

Try using a soft, clean, dry cloth and wipe it radially (straight out from center to edge). If the DVD still does not play, please include a note with it when you return it to the Library. Our disc-cleaning machine, operated by volunteers, has significantly reduced these unfortunate circumstances. But please handle library materials with care to prevent damage. And please do not remove library tags.

You can use the copier in the Main Library Lobby to fax documents or scan them to a flash drive. Faxing costs $.50 per page. There is no cost to scan. Ask us if you need assistance.

Less than 20% of the lights in public areas are left on for the cleaning crew which works 10 pm to 4 am. Lights in most staff areas are on motion sensors and turn off shortly after the area is empty. (This also is helpful during the day.) Emergency lights are always on in accordance with fire codes. We know it's not perfect, but we are doing our best to manage the building's systems and conserve as much electricity as possible.

I've been trying to log in to the library website, but keep getting error messages. When I come to the library and try to log on to the wireless I have issues as well. I e-mail the tech support address (techprobs@oppl.org) and the e-mail bounces back saying delivery failed. Who can I talk to about this?

Hi Sarah,

It sounds like you're having two separate problems--logging in to our catalog, and logging in to our wireless when you're in the building. In addition, your email to techprobs@oppl.org is bouncing. First, I will have our IT department look into the email issue. In the meantime, I will work with you to solve your catalog and wifi login issues.

I'll need more information from you, though. Can you please email me at aslaughter@oppl.org with your full name and library card number so I can look into your account, and describe the problems you're having with the wifi login process so we can troubleshoot that? Our staff is also always available to help you when you're in the building.

I hope to hear from you soon.
