Celebrating Seniors Week 2023

By Rose Barnes, Health & Senior Services Librarian

It’s finally spring! And Celebrating Seniors Week is right around the corner—May 11-18, in fact.

If you’re new to the area, or maybe have not had the opportunity to participate in Celebrating Seniors Week before, let me share some of my favorite aspects of the week.

What is Celebrating Seniors Week?

Held annually since 2010, Celebrating Seniors work is dedicated to honoring, recognizing, and serving seniors in Oak Park, River Forest, and Forest Park.

The weeklong celebration is sponsored by The Celebrating Seniors Coalition, an organization dedicated to uplifting and advocating for older adults in the community. The organization is dedicated to dispelling the myth that older adults are “past their prime” and providing a forum and resources for community members ages 60 and older.

Join in the celebration at fun & informative events

One of my favorite activities during the week is the 60 Over 60 celebration. Additionally, each year there are various community-sponsored events specifically for older adults.
