On Feb. 7, the library's Assistant Director for Administrative Services James Madigan celebrated 20 years of outstanding service to the library and the community. The following resolution was approved by the Board of Library Trustees, to recognize Jim for his commitment, his talents and his leadership. Congratulations, Jim!

Whereas:  James Madigan launched his journey in professional library leadership on February 7, 1994, as Coordinator of Administrative and Community Services, and

Whereas: In the two decades since, James Madigan has provided vital vision, consistent support and significant contributions in the critical roles of Assistant Director for Management Services, Assistant Director for Administration, Assistant Director for Administration and Finance, and currently as the Assistant Director for Administrative Services, and

Whereas: Through the earning of his Master’s in Library Science, his continued management of the library’s tuition reimbursement program, and his commitment to mentoring current library school students and staff, James Madigan demonstrates his investment in the development of future librarians, and

Whereas:  His steadfast commitment to celebrating personal and professional diversity aligns tightly with the missions of the Oak Park Public Library, and the Village of Oak Park, and

Whereas:  James Madigan’s essential leadership roles in the renovation process of the Maze Branch Library, and the planning and construction of the current award-winning Main Library building, and

Whereas:  Recognizing that his broad community connections and his deep appreciation for and respect of all types of people have enhanced the library’s reputation as a community gathering place, and

Whereas:  His professional commitment to progressive issues, such as social justice and the library industry’s formal response to the U.S. Patriot Act, represent the lifeblood of social responsibility in librarianship, and

Whereas:  Oak Park at large knows James Madigan always makes time to listen to and support his colleagues, neighbors and Friends of the Oak Park Public Library,

Now therefore let it be resolved:

That the Board of Library Trustees of the Village of Oak Park express its deepest appreciation to James Madigan for his dedicated leadership and his loyal, compassionate service to the Oak Park Public Library.

Adopted this 21st day of January, 2014, by unanimous vote of the Board of Library Trustees of the Village of Oak Park, Illinois.
