John will bring his personal story of becoming a best-selling writer and, just in time for Halloween, his new novel Help for the Haunted to a lecture and reception at the Main Library, beginning at 7:30 pm Friday. The New York-based author of Boy Still Missing and Strange But True, Searles also appears regularly as a book critic on NBC’s Today Show and CBS’s The Early Show. His essays have been published in The New York Times, Washington Post and Daily Beast.

The Book Table will sell Searles' titles at the library, and refreshments will be served. The evening, honoring Ms. Ballinger's 30-plus years of library service, is hosted by the Friends of the Oak Park Public Library.
