Public Computers

WiFi

All of our library locations offer free wireless. Connect to the “opplair” network in your laptop or device's network settings. You will need to accept the Computer and Internet Use Policy to log in.

Computers

You can use a library computer with your Oak Park Public Library card at any of our three locations for 45 minutes a day. You can extend your time if nobody is waiting. You may also use a computer if you have a library card from another library in the SWAN consortium, or if you have registered your library card from another Illinois library with us. We offer Internet access and Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher.

We also have computers for:

  • Out of state visitors and those without library cards
  • Researchers to use our Online Tools
  • Individuals with visual impairments

Laptops

The Dole Branch Library and the Maze Branch Library offer laptops, which you can use for up to 2 hours with your Oak Park Public Library card. The laptops have wireless Internet access and Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher.

Computers for Children and Teens

  • Computers in the Children’s Department at the Main Library are reserved for children up to 5th grade and their caregivers.
  • The Children's Department also has computers for children with special needs and preschool educational games.
  • Computers on the 2nd floor of the Main Library are reserved for middle school and high school students except, during school hours.

Need Help?

  • Library staff can offer limited computer assistance.
  • Computer volunteers are regularly available in the Technology Center.
  • We also offer technology classes at the Main Library and one-to-one assistance at the Main Library and Dole Branch Library.
  • You can learn on your own with our basic computer tutorials (link), software tutorials (link), and computer books (link). The tutorials require an Oak Park Public Library card.
