Will there be specific rooms for specific subjects, or will students be left to find out if they have any classes in common upon arrival? I ask because the former option would streamline the studying process, though it would be more difficult to procure a necessary number of rooms. However, even two hours with other students in AP Physics, for example, would be better than days with students studying for Italian.

Thank you for the question about our open study program. We reserve spaces on the second floor of the library (the Teen Study Room, the Veterans Room, and the Small Meeting Room) so teens have blocked off areas to spread out and study. We do not organize the spaces by subject. Teen feedback from earlier open study events has shown us that teens often come with a group of friends to study with even if they have no classes in common. Others organize their own study groups and meet in a specific place once they arrive at the library. Occasionally teachers will schedule times to come work with students at the library during open study.

Many students in AP classes (and other courses) use the library for study space year round. Our group study rooms are frequently booked for (student facilitated) weekly study sessions. During AP finals at OPRFHS AP finals (May 7-18 this year) we see many small groups of youth coming on to do intensive overviews and group study work related to their shared classes.

During finals open study we offer light snacks (and usually one night of a more substantial option, like pizza) and make sure there is staff available to assist students with any questions or issues they run into, including academic inquiries and equipment trouble shooting, like access to wireless Internet, printers/scanners, and basic studying supplies.
