Saturday, October 18, 2014 - 2:00pm to 4:00pm

The Oak Park Public Library and Oak Park Arms are teaming up to present a Local Author Book Fair at the Oak Park Arms, 408 S. Oak Park Avenue. The Library and Oak Park Arms are seeking local Oak Park area authors who are interested in meeting local readers and selling their books.

Meet local authors and get a jump on holiday book shopping – we expect to have fiction, non-fiction, even some local history authors among the group. Self-published and e-book authors are also welcome to participate in this Book Fair.

The Grand Army of the Republic: How it Served the Civil War Union Veterans

Tuesday, October 7, 2014 - 7:00pm to 9:00pm

The Grand Army of the Republic was the national association of Union Civil War Veterans. In 1890, it had 470,000 members. Not only were they the original “Band of Brothers,” but they founded soldiers’ homes, promoted patriotism, enacted pensions for veterans, created Decoration/Memorial Day, and elected six Republican Presidents, all Civil War veterans.
