The Grand Army of the Republic: How it Served the Civil War Union Veterans

Tuesday, October 7, 2014 - 7:00pm to 9:00pm

The Grand Army of the Republic was the national association of Union Civil War Veterans. In 1890, it had 470,000 members. Not only were they the original “Band of Brothers,” but they founded soldiers’ homes, promoted patriotism, enacted pensions for veterans, created Decoration/Memorial Day, and elected six Republican Presidents, all Civil War veterans.
