May Artist: Robert K. Elder: "Rockers, Writers & Filmmakers"

Friday, May 2, 2014 - 12:00am

Before Robert K. Elder became an author and editor at the Chicago Sun-Times, he cut his teeth as arts photographer in the 1990s. Slinging a Pentax K1000 camera with a broken light meter, Elder found himself photographing artists such as U2, Pearl Jam, Beck, Joan Baez, Garth Brooks, Marilyn Manson, Rage Against the Machine and Sarah McLachlan. The young photographer's odyssey led him to take portraits of writers such as Neil Gaiman, Ken Kesey, Studs Terkel and filmmaker Oliver Stone, who had just published his first novel.
