Designed for kids with special needs who may have a hard time sitting still or focusing in big groups. This class features stories, songs, and movement activities along with sensory supports and schedules. Best for ages 3 and up, with a caregiver. Siblings welcome.
Each month we'll ask you to make two recipes from a designated cookbook: we'll choose the first recipe and ask you to make it at home; you choose the second and bring it to our discussion to share. We'll meet to discuss both recipes and to sample the one you chose. We'll have a potluck of tasty treats! This month's selection is "Gran Cocina Latina by Maricel Presilla, and our recipe choice is Baked Rice with Pumpkin, Poblanos and Cilantro. Copies of the book are available at Maze Branch one month prior to the event.
This class is designed for 1:1 interactions between caregivers and walkers up to 24 months. One year olds love to wander and listen while they explore, and caregivers can help them participate while on the move. Short books are paired with songs and rhymes that are modeled to introduce pre-literacy skills. Limit: 20. Oak Park Public Library card required at Main Library.
This class is designed for three and four year olds, to prepare for a school environment. Children are learning how to participate in groups and engage independently, while listening to longer books and more challenging concept games. Caregivers are encouraged to attend. Limit: 30. Clients of PADS and community members are invited to a weekly writing workshop, Monday evenings from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the Veterans Room of the Main Library. Library staff and people from PADS will lead the group in writing exercises to share stories and experiences. Refreshments will be served.
