Art Reception: Soumya Netrabile
Saturday, March 4, 2017 - 1:00pm to 3:00pm

Meet local artist Soumya Netrabile and see her new work in the Oak Park Public Library Art Gallery from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 4. Soumya is constantly looking to set up new relationships throughout her wide range of art. She imagines herself a weaver, piecing together the scraps left over from plunges into literature, biology, industry, mythology and her surroundings. The way these elements come together in the current work is helped along by the media she uses -- pastel, charcoal, watercolor, collage and frottage. In her drawings, she is playing at inventing new landscapes and new spaces. The results range from the fantastical and quirky to the purely abstract.

Soumya emigrated from India as a young child to settle in New Jersey, and later, in Illinois. Her work has been exhibited both regionally and nationally.
