One-act Play: French Artist Vigee Le Braun
Wednesday, October 16, 2013 - 7:00pm to 9:00pm

See Oak Park writer/artist Bobbie Raymond and actress Sara Nichols present a one-act play titled “Imaginary Interview with Elizabeth Vigee Le Brun."

Known best for her portraits of Marie Antoinette and other members of the French court, Marie Louise Elizabeth Vigee Le Brun (1755-1842) led a life of hard work, adventure, recognition, and travel throughout Europe to escape death during the French Revolution. Little could she have predicted that a portrait she did of the Russian Princess Tufiakina would appear in the basement of a Chicago bungalow in 2010. The painting was missing for about 150 years and was mistakenly identified in a catalog of her Russian works.

Roberta L. Raymond, also an artist, but better known as a sociologist and founder of the Oak Park Regional Housing Center, started imagining what it would be like to go back in time and meet Vigee LeBrun. That fantasy led her to write this play.
