What's Cooking?

Sunday, April 26, 2015 - 4:00pm to 5:00pm

Each month we'll ask you to make two recipes from a designated cookbook: we'll choose the first recipe and ask you to make it at home; you choose the second and bring it to our discussion to share. We'll meet to discuss both recipes and to sample the one you chose. We'll have a potluck of tasty treats! This month's selection is "The Essential NY Times Cookbook" by Amanda Hesser, and our recipe choice is James Beard's Chicken with 40 Cloves of Garlic. Copies of the book are available at Maze Branch one month prior to the event.

The Lives They Lived: "Just Kids"

Tuesday, March 17, 2015 - 7:30pm to 8:30pm

Patti Smith's "Just Kids" takes us back to New York City and the Chelsea Hotel during the late sixties and seventies. Smith recounts her relationship with Robert Mapplethorpe and their initiation into the New York art scene and all that it entailed during those tumultuous years. Join us as we discuss this National Book Award-winner that Joan Didion referred to as "so honest and pure as to count as a true rapture." Books are available one month before the discussion at Maze Branch.
