What I do at the library and how I turn outward: I work at both Main Library and Maze Branch. I love sharing my love of picture books and beyond with kids of all ages. I also love reader's advisory, especially with children's materials. I'd be thrilled to help you find your next favorite book!
My favorite "hidden library gem": This is more of a new item than a hidden old gem...I love the new Playaways. They are a new and improved version of audiobooks. All you need are headphones—no CD player necessary! We have Playaways for all levels of readers in Children's Services at the Main Library. Some even include one or more books to read along. Come check out this collection!
My favorite thing about Oak Park: I think the best thing about Oak Park is the people. If you already know me, you know I like to talk—a lot—and Oak Park has great people to talk to.
What I'm reading, listening to, watching now: I just finished Diamond in the Desert by Kathryn Fitzmaurice. I'm working my way through the Monarch, Bluestem, and Rebecca Caudill book award nominees for 2014. The whole family has been listening to Dead End in Norvelt by Jack Gantos (started on a road trip—laugh-out-loud funny!). I also just started The Icon Thief by local author Alec Nevala-Lee.
I've been listening to Vance Joy and Milky Chance lately. My husband and I have been binge-watching our way through Criminal Minds and Warehouse 13, but the kids and I have been watching a lot of classic TV together. MASH, Hawaii Five-0, and The Dick Van Dyke Show are recent favorites.
