Spark the Future - Share your Vote

Where do you stand? Throughout July, tell us in person or on Facebook [1]. We’ll have onsite voting stations asking you to vote for the headline you want to see about a future Oak Park. And we’ll be asking you how we can help you reach your future goals and potential.

Onsite voting schedule is:
• Main Library (June 29 through July 5)
• Dole Branch (July 6 through July 12)
• Maze Branch (July 14 through July 20)

We're juggling a lot of creative, collaborative ideas. So your vote matters, and our future together depends on it. Learn more about our future-focused and community-driven launch pad [2].

Find your next great reading experience

We recently came across this guide to reading and walking at the same time [7] and immediately thought of all you Oak Parkers who fill every possible moment with reading. We know you’ll never run out of books to read, but we can help with your “what to read next” dilemma. We offer up a rotating list of great reading, viewing, and listening choices [8] on our website. Follow us on Twitter [9] or Facebook [1] where we share even more suggestions. If you need any additional motivation to read this summer, join our summer reading program [10] for a chance to win great prizes!

Like our Friends on Facebook

Connect with the Friends of the Library at facebook.com/friendsoppl [11] to get news about sponsored events and updates about volunteer needs. Volunteers are always needed to help sort books in advance of the Annual Book Fair [12] held on August 3 and 4, 2012.

Teens volunteer summer hours

We have a great crew of teen volunteers again this summer. The Art Attack team has already installed their original earth-friendly caterpillars and mushrooms [13] in front of the Main Library and at Austin Gardens. Says one teen artist, “It took a surprising amount of work, but we're cool. And done. It looks so freaking amazing.” Other teen volunteers are working on a photography project inspired by the historical photo collection of Philander Barclay, designing t-shirts to advertise the teen volunteer program, searching for misplaced books, and keeping library materials in order.
