Ready for School? Got Your Card?

Make sure the school-age kids in your life are ready for their first day of studies. One of the most important school supplies is an Oak Park Public Library card. Oak Park children of any age can get a library card for free. Apply online [1] or visit the library together with your child. Parents/guardians must sign the application form for children and teens under 18 and show proof of Oak Park residency.

Prepare for Lyric Opera season

Opera aficionados and novices alike will find plenty here to support their love of opera - including CDs, DVDs, sheet music, critical reviews, biographies of composers, and the return of the Lyric Opera lecture series. Offered once again at Oak Park Public Library and River Forest Public Library, this year's series kicks off with "Elektra" by Strauss, Sunday, September 23, 2:00 pm at Oak Park Public Library, and "Simon Boccanegra" by Verdi, Wednesday, October 17, 7:00 pm at River Forest Public Library. Now's the time to check out Louise Erdrich

Fans of Louise Erdrich are eagerly awaiting her newest book, The Round House, and her arrival in Oak Park on Tuesday, October 23 at Unity Temple. This award-winning author known for exploring Native American themes will deliver this year’s Barbara Ballinger Lecture hosted by the Friends of the Oak Park Public Library [14]. Erdrich has written 13 novels, as well as volumes of poetry, short stories, children’s books, and a memoir of early motherhood. Check out titles in print, audio, or ebook format at the library.
