In Worried Sick: Break Free from Chronic Worry to Achieve Mental & Physical Health , Karol Ward looks at patterns of excessive worry, and focuses on helping people recognize symptoms of stress. Her practical handbook offers checklists to help reduce and manage negative thinking.
The particular problems of stress for women baby boomers are examined in Stress Less: The New Science That Shows Women How to Rejuvenate the Body and the Mind  by Thea Singer. This is a readable compilation of research findings related to anxiety and stress. The link to stress and aging is well-documented, and sensible solutions are offered.
The Relaxation & Stress Reduction Workbook  by Martha Davis is in its sixth edition. This popular classic, first published in 1980, offers straightforward instructions for meditation, coping, anger and time management, and visualization as well as nutrition and exercise. This book is an excellent tool for relaxing the body and calming the mind.
If your stress has gone further and you are dealing with depression, take a look at Margaret Wehrenberg’s The 10 Best-Ever Depression Management Techniques: Understanding How Your Brain Makes You Depressed & What You Can Do to Change It.  This book offers solutions that can raise physical and mental energy, offset negativity, and increase positive emotions. These techniques can be effective whether working alone or with a therapist.
The SuperStress Solution  by Roberta Lee emphasizes diet, detoxification, and sleep remedies to build stress resistance. Her four-week program is designed to counteract the physical and emotional difficulties caused by the modern world.
