Folk Singer/Guitarist Mary Flower Performs October 17
Folk singer/guitarist Mary Flower will present the next folk music concert in the series sponsored by the Friends of the Oak Park Public Library. Mary Flower is noted for her immense finger-style guitar technique and warm-as-honey-and-whiskey voice. The free concert will be Monday, October 17 at 7 pm at the Main Library.
Mary Flower has performed internationally at festivals, concert venues and guitar camps for four decades. She is an award-winning guitarist from Portland, Oregon and a Yellow Dog Records recording artist. A Blues Music Award nominee and twice a finalist at the International Fingerpicking Guitar Championship, Mary also won the 2010 Annual Independent Music/People's Choice Award for "Acoustic Song of the Year".
Downbeat magazine calls Mary, "a world class fingerstyle and lap-slide guitarist". She has performed at Merlefest, the Calgary Folk Festival and on Prairie Home Companion. She has just released her eighth recording, "Misery Loves Company", a collection of duets with some of her favorite musicians, including Dave Frishberg and Curtis Salgado.
