Opportunities

Volunteers are used by the library year round and also seasonally such as during the Teen Summer Reading Program.

Spark Project Volunteers

Work with library staff on project to redesign library services. Volunteers provide input to library staff regarding tech trends and partner with staff in community outreach activities. Commitment calls for at least 2 hours per week.

Adopt-a-Shelf Volunteers

Trained to monitor a section of the Library's shelving to keep items in order and readily available for patrons.

Computer Volunteers

Provide assistance to patrons using public computers and printers. Basic knowledge of PCs, Windows, Microsoft Office Suite, and Internet Explorer is necessary.

Item Finding Volunteers

Retrieve library materials from staff prepared lists.

Publicity Volunteers

Distribute flyers and other library publicity materials to Oak Park businesses and agencies.

Administrative Volunteers

Assist with a range of projects and tasks such as folding brochures, applying labels and preparing mailings.

Home Delivery Volunteers

Assist with the Library's Home Delivery Service provided to Oak Park residents unable to get to the library. Volunteers deliver library materials to patrons receiving this service. Delieries are on Friday mornings, and a valid Illinois driver's license with automobile insurance is required.

Keep public copiers and printers supplied with paper as well as keeping paper and pencils available near the public catalog computers.
