Termination of Employment

Library Board approved April 15, 2009.

Voluntary termination of employment in the Library may be made by resignation or retirement.  Notice of resignation from the Library should be given in writing by professional librarians and Department Heads at least one month in advance of their anticipated last day.  All other employees are asked to give at least two weeks notice.

Involuntary termination of employment may be caused by dismissal, layoff, or termination during the Introductory Period of employment   Notice of termination of employment by the Library because of layoff will be given in writing in person or by mail one month in advance of their anticipated last day to professional employees and two weeks in advance for all other employees.

The Executive Director may dismiss an employee when it is thought to be in the best interest of the Library to do so. The notice of dismissal shall be in writing. The employee may request a meeting with the Executive Director to discuss the dismissal.  After such a meeting, the Executive Director will advise the employee in writing whether the dismissal is final or whether it will be reconsidered.
