Have you been notified your library items are ready for pickup? You can now visit the Main Library second floor to find those items and check them out using self-checkout stations (within 7 days after you receive your SWAN notification). We also are adding a new visiting hour for high-risk patrons only, 10-11 am Mondays-Saturdays (read more below).
Why we are making changes now
Oak Parkers love (and use) their library! After the August 12 opening of resource sharing again between libraries, the number of items currently on hold for Oak Parkers has more than doubled (from its typical 2,500). To ensure you get what you’ve requested in the most timely manner and that we all have plenty of space to physically distance and share as safely as possible, we are changing how things work.
You now need to come inside and use a self-checkout station before taking materials outside of the library. This is different from contact-free holds pickup (when we checked out your items and brought them to you). Over the weekend, we will be adding more self-checkout stations to the second floor. Self-checkout stations are also available on the first floor in Children’s Services, and on the third floor in Adult Services.
Thank you for your patience as we evolve these processes to meet growing community requests!
Curbside contact-free holds pickup ended Saturday, August 29
- Saturday, August 22 was the last day to pick up holds from the tables outside the Main Library entrance (in person)
- Saturday, August 29 was the last day to pick up holds curbside on Grove Avenue (by vehicle)
Find your holds (and more space to physically distance) on the second floor
Holds ready for pickup are on second floor shelves (marked alphabetically by last name) on the Main Library’s second floor.
The few exceptions: technology (such as mobile hotspots) and video games from other libraries will be held in the lobby. To pick up these exception items, bring your cell phone or use our desk phone to call the staff number posted in the lobby.
New! Special visiting hour for high-risk patrons only: 10-11 am Mondays-Saturdays
The CDC defines high-risk individuals as older adults and people with underlying medical conditions. We encourage everyone who is not at increased risk to plan their in-person library visits between 11 am and 6 pm Mondays-Saturdays.
Reserving the first hour of each day for high-risk patrons is one of many ways we are working together to keep each other safe.
