Digital play for global citizens: apps, websites, podcasts and more

To become creative critical thinkers and global citizens, it’s not enough for kids to know how to operate the latest device. “Kids need adult guidance in a networked world,” said Children’s Digital Learning Librarian Anne Bensfield.

Inspired by Digital Play for Global Citizens (pdf), a guide from The Joan Ganz Cooney Center at Sesame Workshop, Bensfield and Multicultural Learning Librarian Naomi Priddy curated apps, websites, podcasts, and more for different age groups, that “stretch kids, are inclusive, and can open windows into the lives of others around the world,” said Priddy.

Coding websites, apps, gadgets & books

Coding teaches computational thinking, decision making, and troubleshooting and prepares kids for a highly digital society. From websites and apps to gadgets and books, our librarians and the district 97 teacher librarians recommend these resources to help children learn about coding.
